I’m Erique Zhang.

I’m a communication and media scholar interested in beauty, race, and transgender identity.

I’m Erique (er-eek, not er-ee-kay), but you can also call me Eri (they/she).

I am incoming Assistant Professor of Digital Publics and Promotional Cultures in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University, starting in September 2024. I’m currently a PhD candidate in the Media, Technology, and Society program in Northwestern University’s School of Communication. My research examines how images of trans women and femmes of color circulate in the media and cultural industries and what these images communicate about race, gender, and trans identity.

I co-founded the Center for Applied Transgender Studies with TJ Billard and Avery Everhart. I am also an affiliate of the Center for Critical Race and Digital Studies. I hold a BFA and MA from New York University.
