I’m Erique Zhang.
I’m a communication and media scholar interested in beauty, race, and transgender identity.
I’m Erique (er-eek, not er-ee-kay), but you can also call me Eri (they/she).
I am Assistant Professor of Digital Publics and Promotional Cultures in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University. My research examines how images of trans women and femmes of color circulate in the fashion, beauty, and entertainment industries and what these images communicate about race, gender, and trans identity.
I co-founded the Center for Applied Transgender Studies with TJ Billard and Avery Everhart. I am also an affiliate of the Center for Critical Race and Digital Studies. I hold a PhD in Media, Technology, and Society from Northwestern University.
